This course focuses on how the media participates in the construction and struggle for political power, from electoral operations, national narratives, war communication, to disinformation warfare and digital diplomacy, and systematically explores political communication theory and global communication strategies. Students will conduct in-depth analysis of communication models such as Agenda-Setting and Framing, and understand through transnational cases how the media can become a tool of political power, a bastion of democracy, or a battlefield in international discourse wars.
The course combines theoretical study, case analysis and simulation exercises to cultivate students' critical analysis skills and international news literacy. It also emphasizes the practical application of crisis communication and information governance capabilities. Students will work in groups to complete a news strategy proposal on an international issue and conduct a mock press conference to deliver it.
