本課程為政治系國際關係組基礎課程，其目的在培養學生對國際關係歷史發展的全面性認識，並透過史學與社會科學觀點的對話，理解國際關係此一學科的分析方式。相較於過往區隔成西洋外交與中國外交兩區塊，本課程強調整體性的國際關係史理解，打破國別與區域的界線，以宏觀的角度來理解全球範圍之政治脈動。課程範圍涵蓋前現代到20世紀前期的國際關係發展，檢視不同政治單元處理涉外關係的認知，原則與操作方式。

This course is a basic course of the International Relations Organization in the Department of Politics. Its purpose is to cultivate students' comprehensive understanding of the historical development of international relations, and to understand the analysis method of international relations through the dialogue between history and social sciences. Compared with the past regions, separated into two regions: Western diplomacy and Chinese diplomacy, this course emphasizes the overall understanding of international relations history, breaks the boundaries between countries and regions, and understands the political movements in the global scope from a macro perspective. The course scope covers the development of international relations from the premodern to the early 20th century, and examines the understanding, principles and operation methods of handling foreign-related relations by different political units.
