本課程以王弼《易經注》為核心教材,結合《易經》原典與魏晉玄學義理,探討其詮釋策略、哲學架構與思想特色。王弼(226–249)為魏晉玄學的代表人物,其《易經注》不僅重構了《易經》的哲學意義,也標誌著漢以來象數易向義理易的轉折。王弼以「得意忘言」為詮釋綱領,試圖將《易經》從占筮技術與象數預測中抽離,轉化為哲學反思與形上義理的經典。本課程透過文本細讀、概念分析與哲學對話,訓練學生掌握詮釋技術、理解王弼思想,並培養批判性分析能力。

課程設計將從王弼對《易經》架構的理解出發,逐步引導學生進入其對「無」、「有」、「象」、「理」、「道」、「聖人」等核心概念的詮釋方式,並比較其與兩漢今古文易學的差異,尤其聚焦於他對象數與義理之分的重建。王弼強調以「無」為本,以「理」貫穿卦象辭義,進而將《易經》轉化為解釋宇宙生成與人事運行的總體系統,為玄學提供義理資源。透過對其《繫辭傳》與《說卦傳》注釋的分析,我們將觀察王弼如何以「得意忘象」、「象存理顯」等命題處理語言與本體、象徵與實在之間的哲學問題。

本課程亦將關注王弼對《易》與《老子》思想的整合,討論其如何以義理貫通三玄,建構出一套以「體無而用有」為本的思辨體系。課堂將安排學生閱讀王弼《老子注》選段,並與《易經注》進行交互比較,以掌握其義理詮釋的一貫性與差異點。此外,我們也將探討王弼思想中所體現的政治與倫理關懷,尤其是在〈繫辭〉中關於聖人制度、象教以及君子修養的哲學論述。

This course uses Wang Bi's Commentary on the Book of Changes as the core teaching material, combines the original text of the Book of Changes with the metaphysical principles of the Wei and Jin Dynasties, and explores its interpretation strategies, philosophical framework and ideological characteristics. Wang Bi (226–249) was a representative figure of metaphysics in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. His Commentary on the Book of Changes not only reconstructed the philosophical significance of the Book of Changes, but also marked the transition from the Yi Jing to the Yi Yi since the Han Dynasty. Wang Bi used "I'm so proud that I forget my words" as the interpretive guideline, trying to separate the "Book of Changes" from divination technology and xiangnuo predictions, and transform it into a classic of philosophical reflection and metaphysical theory. Through close reading of texts, conceptual analysis and philosophical dialogue, this course trains students to master interpretation techniques, understand Wang Bi's thoughts, and develop critical analysis skills.

The course design will start from Wang Bi's understanding of the structure of the "Book of Changes" and gradually guide students into his interpretation of core concepts such as "nothing", "you", "xiang", "reason", "Tao", and "sage", and compare the differences with the ancient Yi studies of the Han Dynasty and modern times, with a special focus on his reconstruction of the distinction between object number and principle. Wang Bi emphasized that "nothing" is the basis and "reason" runs through the hexagrams' meanings, and then transformed the "Book of Changes" into an overall system that explains the creation of the universe and the operation of human affairs, providing theoretical resources for metaphysics. Through the analysis of his annotations in "Xici Zhuan" and "Shuo Gua Zhuan", we will observe how Wang Bi dealt with the philosophical issues between language and ontology, symbol and reality with propositions such as "forgetting images when you are proud" and "existence of images by reason".

This course will also focus on Wang Bi's integration of the thoughts of "Yi" and "Laozi", discussing how he connected the three mysteries with principles and constructed a system of speculation based on "the body is nothing but the function is there". The class will arrange for students to read excerpts from Wang Bi's Commentary on Laozi and make interactive comparisons with the Commentary on the Book of Changes to grasp the consistency and differences in its interpretation of meaning. In addition, we will also explore the political and ethical concerns reflected in Wang Bi's thoughts, especially the philosophical discussions on the sage system, Xiangjiao and the cultivation of a gentleman in "Xici".
