臺灣是位於亞洲大陸東南方與太平洋西岸東亞島弧間的島嶼，不僅是從遼闊的太平洋進入亞洲大陸重要的門戶，同時也是東亞地區南北往來的輻輳要地。自17世紀前期起，臺灣長期是人流、物流的轉運中心，隨著臺灣各歷史時期島上政權的遞嬗更迭，與周邊國家、勢力、人群的互動形成錯綜複雜的關係。本課程將以海洋史的跨領域視角，介紹臺灣各歷史時期重大的涉外事件之經緯，引導學生瞭解臺灣在不同歷史時期所面臨的涉外問題、歷史處境、抉擇、因應方式及其影響。講授內容將依照時代順序，介紹各涉外事件相關的國內外史料，敘述各時期影響臺灣處理重大涉外事件的國內外要素，引導學生透過史料的研讀和分析比較各方勢力對個別事件的看法和決策過程，從而適切掌握人們如何因應歷史洪流中各種條件而做決策及其影響，培養歷史思辨能力，以及跨時代、跨區域的歷史思維。

Taiwan is an island located between the arc of East Asia in the southeast and the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. It is not only an important gateway to enter most Asian continents from the Pacific Ocean, but also an important destination for traveling north and south in the East Asia region. Since the early 17th century, Taiwan has long been a transfer center for people and logistics. With the evolution and change of political power on the island in various historical periods in Taiwan, it has formed a complex relationship with the interaction between surrounding countries, forces and people. This course will introduce the major foreign-related events in various historical periods from the perspective of marine history, and guide students to understand the foreign-related problems, historical situations, decisions, response methods and their impacts faced by Taiwan in different historical periods. The content of the lecture will introduce domestic and foreign historical materials related to each foreign incident in accordance with the order of the times, describe domestic and foreign elements that affect Taiwan's handling of major foreign incidents in various periods, and guide students to compare the views and decision-making processes of various parties through the study and analysis of historical materials, so as to accurately grasp how people make decisions and their impacts due to various conditions in the torrent of history, cultivate historical thinking ability, as well as historical thinking across the era and across regions.
