本課程旨在透過榮格、伊利亞德、坎伯、弗雷澤的理論，帶領學生進入現代神話學與心理學的視域，挖掘潛藏在中國古代神話與小說文本中的原型與文學象徵。神話與小說文本的研究，首先須掌握原始文獻、具備精讀文本的能力，其次則是應借鑒現代西方理論，拓展詮釋的新視野。因此，本課程可與「中國神話選讀」相互配合，以便收到文本精讀與理論詮釋並重的功效。課程進行將分為四大主題，逐一介紹榮格、伊利亞德、坎伯、弗雷澤的理論大要，並將其應用於中國古代神話和小說的詮釋。材料來源不限於《山海經》、《搜神記》、《太平廣記》、《聊齋誌異》等，亦包含其他民俗傳說。

This course aims to lead students into the perspective of modern mythology and psychology through the theories of Jung, Eliade, Campbell, and Fraser, and to explore the archetypes and literary symbols hidden in ancient Chinese mythology and novel texts. To study the texts of myths and novels, we must first master the original documents and have the ability to read the texts intensively. Secondly, we should draw on modern Western theories to expand new horizons of interpretation. Therefore, this course can be coordinated with "Selected Readings on Chinese Mythology" to achieve the effect of paying equal attention to intensive reading of the text and theoretical interpretation. The course will be divided into four major themes, introducing the theoretical outlines of Jung, Eliade, Campbell, and Fraser one by one, and applying them to the interpretation of ancient Chinese myths and novels. The sources of materials are not limited to "The Classic of Mountains and Seas", "Sou Shen Ji", "Taiping Guang Ji", "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", etc., but also include other folklore.
