現代學生不太愛閱讀，尢其是長篇鉅著，海派小說由海上花列傳到蘇青、張愛玲、王安憶等。這些小說有世情也有愛情，是都會的然也有鄉土記憶。形制有短篇、中篇、長篇具備，可由淺入深，循序漸進，對研究者來說，也可作為專題研究。
然所有的閱讀都是為創作而準備，從傑作中得到技巧與靈感，配合小說理論講解，希望運用於實作，完成自己的小說。
