本課程希望讓同學們對自己的主修樂器，在不同時期應具備的風格有更深刻的理解，包含獨奏曲、室內樂到樂團片段的演奏與詮釋。從認識不同時期的樂器特色，到如何影響當代音樂風格及演奏技法，廣泛了解代表性作曲家與重要作品風格，至針對個別樂曲深度研討分析與演繹，互相觀摩演奏與課堂討論也將提升研究生的獨立思考與批判能力。
除了對巴洛克、古典、浪漫時期到二十一世紀的不同的音樂風格演繹與探討，本堂課希望由多面向的切入點，開拓同學的視野並且幫助同學建立音樂家需要的基本概念：如何有效率的練習，如何克服技巧障礙，如何傳達情感與表現力，如何克服上台緊張，如何準備樂團考試等，如何呈現樂曲風格並找出個人特色，如何與其他音樂家合作等。

This course hopes that students will have a deeper understanding of the styles that their majors should have at different times, including the performance and commentary of solo music, indoor music to musical segments. From understanding the instrument features of different periods, to how to influence contemporary music styles and performance techniques, a broad understanding of representative composers and important works styles, to in-depth discussions, analysis and performance of individual music, and watching performance and class discussions will also improve graduate students' independent thinking and critical abilities.
In addition to performing and exploring different music styles from Baroque, classical, romantic period to the 21st century, this class hopes to develop students' vision from a multi-faceted entry point and help students establish the basic concepts needed by musicians: how to practice efficiently, how to overcome technical difficulties, how to convey emotions and expression, how to overcome the stance of the stage, how to prepare for music group exams, etc., how to present musical styles and find personal characteristics, how to cooperate with other musicians, etc.
