The term "Organic Functional Materials" combines a large variety of usually conjugated organic compounds with different chemical and physical properties, such as: photo- and electroluminescence in solution or solid state, redox activity, semiconductivity, photochromicity, mechanochemical activity. Such compounds find wide application as chemical sensors, as dyes and semiconductors in organic electronics, as photo-switches, or as molecular motors and machines. In this class, articles that describe novel compounds with such properties as well as innovative synthetic methods to design such compounds will be highlighted.
