本課程以中國古典小說為核心，透過系統性引導，使修課同學能掌握古典小說領域的基礎概念。另一方面，透過研究方法之實際訓練，當可培養批判思考及獨立研究之學術能力。具體授課內容將由四個部分組成，包括：學術史回顧、學術資源應用、文獻研讀分析、研究論文撰寫等，茲分述如下：
學術史回顧：透過小說學術史總覽式回顧，將有助於初學者快速掌握小說歷來發展概況與當前主要研究課題，乃進入該領域不可或缺之敲門磚。
學術資源應用：學術資源將著重在傳統工具書介紹與新興數位資源操作，若能良好掌握並嫻熟善用，對開展研究當有事半功倍之效，乃修課同學亟需具備之基礎能力。
文獻研讀分析：研讀分析具代表性之學術文獻，亦是培養研究敏銳度的重要訓練，不僅可知悉特定議題當前研究成果，在細緻研讀的過程中，亦可作為修課同學學習參考之方向。
研究論文撰寫：修課同學需於期末需繳交一份論文格式完備之研究論文一份，作為探索古典小說領域的嘗試，亦作為驗證學習成果之參考。

This course takes Chinese classical novels as its core. Through systematic guidance, students can master the basic concepts in the field of classical novels. On the other hand, through practical training in research methods, academic abilities in critical thinking and independent research should be developed. The specific teaching content will be composed of four parts, including: review of academic history, application of academic resources, literature reading and analysis, research paper writing, etc., which are summarized as follows:
Review of academic history: An overview review of the academic history of novels will help beginners quickly grasp the historical development overview and current main research topics of novels, which is an indispensable stepping stone to enter this field.
Application of academic resources: Academic resources will focus on the introduction of traditional reference books and the operation of emerging digital resources. If you can master them well and use them skillfully, you will get twice the result with half the effort in conducting research. This is a basic ability that students who take the course urgently need to possess.
Literature reading and analysis: Reading and analyzing representative academic documents is also an important training for cultivating research acumen. Not only can you know the current research results on specific topics, but in the process of careful reading, it can also serve as a reference for students taking the course.
Research paper writing: Students taking the course are required to submit a research paper with a complete format at the end of the semester as an attempt to explore the field of classical novels and as a reference for verifying learning results.
