This course is organized to address major environmental and social challenges facing humans, including land use competition, biodiversity loss, and urgent needs for landscape resource maintenance and preservation. Landscape resources, as a symbol of the integration of nature and culture, not only record the interaction between human history and geographical environment, but are also an important cornerstone for the everlasting development. Course design closely calls for goal 13 (climate action) and goal 17 (promoting the realization of goal) in United Nations Continuing Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the importance of landscape protection and combining environmental protection with diverse collaboration as the core concept. Students will understand the impact of travel behavior on landscape resources through citizen science activities, combine the use of digital tools and implement the spirit of public participation, and explore and promote the protection of permanent landscape resources to promote the conservation and continuous use of landscape resources.
Course design focuses specifically on:
• Master the practical skills of VGI (citizen science) and public participation: Students will learn the core concepts of civic science, participate in local environment monitoring activities, and collect and share data through VGI platforms such as iTrail.com to experience how to promote the protection of landscape resources through public participation.
• Understand the impact of recreational behavior on landscape resources: Through participating in public activities, students will observe and reflect on the impact of recreational behavior on landscape resources, discuss related ecological challenges and management strategies, and explore how to solve the negative impact of recreational behavior through participation methods.
• Explore the diverse relationship between culture and landscape: Combining human science, cultural research and geographical information technology, students will deeply understand the cultural connotation of landscape resources, and explore the role of local sense and memory in landscape protection, and further understand the importance of cultural landscape as a common industry.
• Promote permanent operation and social responsibility: The course guides students to think about how to promote positive changes in society and the environment through permanent operation.
