The core purpose of this course is to think about human behavior from a scientific perspective. Many seemingly human-like cultures or artistic behaviors are actually the result of the interaction between organisms and environments. Many times we think our behavior is determined by free will, but in fact those behaviors may be explained by biological evolutionary perspectives.
Human language and music behavior are the best examples. Music and language are seen as evolutionary characteristics unique to humans. No other species currently known to us have developed music and language systems that are comparable to humans. Most of the previous discussions about language were compared with cultural differences, and music was often discussed as art or as a social trend. This course will discuss the origins of language and music from the perspective of biological evolution, psychology and neuroscience, from the perspective of Dalvin's evolutionary perspectives, and how language and music abilities help us survive. We will also invite students to think deeply through group discussions and understand the different thinking patterns of different languages, and how these differences in thinking patterns are reflected in daily behavior. We will also explore how brains understand and analyze language and music, as well as how humans learn to communicate language, appreciate music, and play music; during the course, the latest brain imaging research will be used to discuss language and music learning for brain development. The impact of We will also explore the musicality in language and how music affects our emotions.
This course will be conducted in an interactive way, introducing the current scientific community's research on human language and music behavior in a popular way. It is expected that students can observe our language and music behavior scientifically during the course of study, and Being able to understand the importance of human music, language and behavior from an evolutionary perspective can also cultivate scientific views on the meaning of "being a person".
