台灣目前面臨高齡化與少子化的人口現況，呈現低出生及低死亡率的「雙低效應」影響。故老年人的生活與照顧議題，成為政府的施政重要焦點。老人社會工作課程主要從社會工作專業視角（老人工作是一個跨專業合作的領域社會工作只是其中一種專業人員）出發，希望藉由此一課程達到以下目的：

Taiwan is currently facing an aging population and a low birthrate, showing the "double low effect" of low birthrates and low mortality rates. Therefore, the life and care of the elderly have become an important focus of government policy. The course on social work for the elderly mainly starts from the professional perspective of social work (work for the elderly is a field of inter-professional cooperation and social work is just one of the professionals). We hope to achieve the following goals through this course:

This course is designed to prepare undergraduate students to familiar with the context and process of aging, and become competent in dealing with and assisting older persons through service practice-health care-social work professional dimensions. That is, to enable students to engage issues, problems and needs resolution of elders by applying relevant professional expertise and strategy in compliance with social welfare policies and social service programs.
