本課程旨在以「公共空間」為主題,結合當前人文地理學的空間理論、日治時期史料/研究文獻,及臺日兩地的案例研究,建立批判性探問的文化研究視角,引導修課學生思考日治時期台灣社會的日常生活如何與政治、資本權力所塑造出來的公共空間相互連結。
具體而言,本課程將以日治時期的臺灣社會作為主要研討對象,藉由城市性質的轉變、公共空間的自我展示、公共空間中的日常生活行為、地方/空間創生……等不同層次的議題來梳理殖民權力下所構建出來的公共空間與其間的文化想像。藉由討論這些議題,本課程將協助學生從日常生活周遭的「空間遺跡」中辨析臺灣近現代社會的公共空間發展過程如何日本的殖民進程相關,甚而進一步從後殖民的視角引導學生去探索日本帝國對於亞洲各地的空間形構與文化發展所帶來的影響。
在此脈絡下,本課程將分四部分進行,第一部分試圖構建學生關於空間與文化研究的相關理論,使其掌握基本的空間分析、研究能力;第二部分聚焦於戰前與戰後的空間性質轉變,引導學生探索臺灣公共空間的發展過程如何在不同政權交替的歷史進程中產生相互繼承、轉變,與混雜的結果;第三部分則以公共空間中的文化行為與意象作為主題,從旅行/風景、美術攝影/地方色彩、娛樂消費/城市意象四個切面來理解地方公共空間與文化行為之間的關係;最後,第四部分試圖以近年熱門的「地方創生」為主題,介紹臺灣於90年代興起的社區營造運動與日本近年興起的地方創生運動之間的連結及差異,進而思考臺日兩地不同社會所想像的「人與空間」的文化/社會差異。
This course aims to focus on "public space" as the theme, combine the space management discussions of current human geography, historical materials/research literature during the Japanese reign, and case studies in Taiwan and Japan, establish a critically explored cultural research perspective, and guide students to think about how the daily life of Taiwanese society during the Japanese reign is connected with the public space shaped by politics and capital.
Specifically, this course will take Taiwanese society during the Japanese reign as the main research object, and sort out the cultural imaginations of the public space built under colonial power through different levels of discussions such as the transformation of urban nature, self-display of public space, daily life behaviors in public space, local/space creation... By discussing these topics, this course will help students analyze how the public space development process of Taiwan's near modern society is related to Japan's colonial process, and even further guide students from the perspective of post-colonialism to explore the impact of the Japanese Empire on the spatial structure and cultural development across Asia.
Under this structure, this course will be conducted in four parts. The first part will try to construct students' related theories about space and cultural research, so that they can master basic space analysis and research capabilities; the second part will focus on the transformation of space characteristics before and after the war, and guide students to explore how the development process of Taiwan's public space can produce mutual inheritance, transformation, and mixed results in the historical process of alternating different political powers; the third part will take cultural behaviors and images in the public space as The theme, understands the relationship between local public space and cultural behavior from four aspects: travel/scenery, aesthetic photography/local color, entertainment consumption/urban image; finally, the fourth part of the trial is based on the popular "local inventories" in recent years, introducing the connection and difference between the community-building movement that rose in Taiwan in the 1990s and the local inventories that Japan has risen in recent years, and then considers the cultural/social differences of "people and space" imagined by different societies in Taiwan.
