This course discusses the relationship between evolutionary discussion and ethics. Students should note that the current course planning may still change, and the specific course content and rating methods will be based on the explanation in the first class, so students must attend the first class. According to the current planning, we mainly consider the relationship between evolution and morality based on Scott James's work on evolutionary ethics. If we place the inventive theory in religion, "human beings are evolutionary creatures" is already a proposition supported by full theory. Therefore, all kinds of human abilities may be related to evolution, which also includes the ability to recognize morally and act morally. However, it is not easy to clear these potential connections, because we must also ask: What abilities are the so-called "ethical awareness and moral action"? In addition, are moral principles established based on these abilities, or do these abilities only allow us to master certain moral principles independent of people? These questions are philosophical problems that have been traditional for a long time. Taking these philosophical questions as the theoretical background, we can further ask: What kind of ethics may provide natural choice advantages and therefore may also be the ethics that humans actually follow? How does evolutionary ethics avoid the theoretical errors of the “social Dalvinism” in the past? What is the relationship between the natural state of biological meaning and the state that is morally worth pursuing? Through these discussions, we try to explore the meaning of evolutionary theory on ethics.
