本課程講授自文藝復興以降至十九世紀的⻄方近代哲學史之主要思潮與哲學家思想。承繼西洋哲學史（一）對古典哲學與中世紀哲學的認識，本課程將以文藝復興時期作為分界，探討此時興起之人文精神對後續思想的影響暨哲學探討方向的轉變。
課程內容包含近代自然哲學中講究實證精神與科學知識的萌芽、理性主義與經驗主義之爭，以及十八世紀啟蒙運動與近代政治哲學發展如何由康德鼎力繼承，最終將哲學思想引入德國觀念論，及由此誕生的德國浪漫主義與⺠族主義思想。相較於希臘真理的時代，中世紀的神學時代，近代哲學是展現理性光輝的時代，希冀藉由哲人介紹與哲思討論使學生熟悉西方哲學史之發展脈絡，面對近代⻄方哲學中有關知識論、形上學、倫理學、政治與社會哲學等思想有一 宏觀視野，以利銜接當代⻄方哲學的學習，且從中訓練預先掌握未來哲學發展之趨勢觀察，使哲學經驗為生命所用。

This course teaches the main ideological trends and philosophers' thoughts in the history of modern Western philosophy from the Renaissance to the 19th century. Inheriting the understanding of classical philosophy and medieval philosophy from History of Western Philosophy (1), this course will use the Renaissance period as a dividing line to explore the impact of the rising humanistic spirit at this time on subsequent thoughts and the change in the direction of philosophical inquiry.
The course content includes the emergence of empirical spirit and scientific knowledge in modern natural philosophy, the debate between rationalism and empiricism, and how the Enlightenment and the development of modern political philosophy in the 18th century were inherited by Kant, who ultimately introduced philosophical thought into German idealism, and the resulting German romantic and nationalist thoughts. Compared with the age of Greek truth and the theological age in the Middle Ages, modern philosophy is an era that shows the glory of reason. We hope that through introductions by philosophers and philosophical discussions, students will be familiar with the development context of the history of Western philosophy, and have a certain understanding of the theories of knowledge, metaphysics, ethics, politics and social philosophy in modern Western philosophy. Macroscopic vision is used to facilitate the connection with the study of contemporary Western philosophy, and to provide training to predict trends in future philosophical development, so that philosophical experience can be used in life.
