監獄主要工作內涵為刑罰之執行，具有應報、嚇阻、隔離與矯正犯罪人之多重功能，為刑事司法體系重要且不可或缺之一環。近年在法治與行為科學之突飛猛進及大量專業人員之投入下，監獄逐步邁入專業化之里程。透過各類專業人員，如精神科醫師、心理師、社工員、教誨師、個案工作員、各階層管理人員…，運用現代行為科學技術與各類輔導、處遇措施，對各類受刑人進行矯正工作，備受政府重視。本課程之教學目標為促學生深入探討監獄學在刑事執行上之目標、內涵及重要任務，從中瞭解其主要運作作為與規定，進而拓展學術視野，奠立未來從事法學刑事司法研究之基礎。主要授課內容包括犯罪矯正之功能、歷史淵源與發展、犯罪矯正與刑事司法各部門之關係及其定位、犯罪矯正收容現況、當前犯罪矯正之主要哲學、犯罪矯正行政與處遇、剖析犯罪矯正機構內之生活樣態與特性、犯罪矯正紀律與戒護、犯罪矯正機構內較具成效之輔導處遇技術與方案、各類型及特殊類型犯罪人處遇、國際間之犯罪矯正修法之動向、台灣犯罪矯正業務現況與展望等。

The main connotation of prison work is the execution of punishment. It has multiple functions of retribution, deterrence, isolation and correction of criminals. It is an important and indispensable part of the criminal justice system. In recent years, with the rapid advancement of the rule of law and behavioral science and the input of a large number of professionals, prisons have gradually entered the stage of professionalization. Through various professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, educators, case workers, managers at all levels..., we use modern behavioral science technology and various counseling and treatment measures to correct all types of inmates, which has attracted much attention from the government. The teaching goal of this course is to encourage students to deeply explore the goals, connotations and important tasks of prison science in criminal execution, understand its main operations and regulations, and then expand their academic horizons and lay the foundation for future legal and criminal justice research. The main teaching contents include the function, historical origin and development of crime correction, the relationship and positioning of crime correction and various departments of criminal justice, the current situation of crime correction and accommodation, the main philosophy of current crime correction, crime correction administration and treatment, analysis of life style and characteristics in crime correction institutions, crime correction discipline and rehabilitation, more effective counseling and treatment techniques and programs in crime correction institutions, treatment of various types and special types of offenders, international trends in crime correction law revision, current status and prospects of crime correction business in Taiwan, etc.
