這是東海建研所A組最重要的一門課，培養研究生們未來進行碩士論文研究、寫作的能力。本課程的規畫以授課教師本身的研究專長、興趣為根基進行設計：以建築史、城市史為本，兼容建築考古學、建築人類學、地圖學、地理學、社會學、微觀史學……等領域的跨學科資源。第一次上課時將與同學們討論本學期主題、指定書目，每學期可能安排不同內容，以提升學生們研究的廣度、深度。
This is the most important course of Group A of Donghai Institute of Construction and Research, cultivating graduate students’ ability to conduct master’s thesis research and writing in the future. The planning of this course is designed based on the research expertise and interests of the teaching faculty: it is based on architectural history and urban history, and is compatible with architectural archeology, architectural anthropology, cartography, geography, sociology, micro-history... Interdisciplinary resources in other fields. During the first class, the semester's theme and designated books will be discussed with the students. Different content may be arranged each semester to enhance the breadth and depth of students' research.
本課程旨於協助學生對於建築、都市與景觀等相關專業領域之規劃設計與研究發現兩者間之依存關係作一系列之探索。期望藉由本課程教與學之互動，誘導學生辨識研究方法中有關批判性之重要基本認知。如此，得以奠定學生於其後續生涯發展中最重要之穩固基石。尤其，對於論文研究過程中有關研究流程之嚴謹度、文獻回顧之必要性與價值、研究分析模式之合理性、實證研究之分析結果與討論、及論文寫作之架構等五大章節，將逐項於課程教與學討論中一一被釐清。經由前述主要課程內容之引導，預期應有助學生未來於職場中或繼續學術深造能有較廣闊且具自我獨立見解之規劃設計視野，使其後續生涯更具競爭力。
This course aims to help students conduct a series of explorations into the interdependence between planning, design and research in architecture, urban and landscape related professional fields. It is hoped that through the interaction between teaching and learning in this course, students will be induced to identify important basic cognitions about criticality in research methods. In this way, students can lay the most important solid foundation for their subsequent career development. In particular, the five major chapters related to the rigor of the research process during thesis research, the necessity and value of literature review, the rationality of the research analysis model, the analysis results and discussion of empirical research, and the structure of thesis writing will be discussed one by one. They were clarified one by one in the course teaching and learning discussions. Through the guidance of the aforementioned main course content, it is expected that students will be able to have a broader and independent vision of planning and design in the future workplace or further academic studies, making their subsequent careers more competitive.
