本課程的目標在引導修課同學詮釋與理解中國的政治思想，而這項目標是在下述背景中進行，即，當今世界的政治思想是以西方的自由、民主、法治與人權等概念為主流。我們必須要透過與西方政治思想之對話來理解中國的政治思想。基於上述的目標，本課程以先秦中國政治思想研究為討論的開端，閱讀與討論先秦儒家思想，具體而言是孔子的德治思想與孟子的王道思想。之後再進入當代的政治思想議題討論，主要的議題如下：政治儒學、亞洲價值與人權、儒家思想與人權的相容性問題、儒家致善主義、當代新儒家開出民主說。課程將針對上述問題進行文本探討與討論，希望經過本課程的閱讀與討論，同學們可以掌握當代中國政治思想的重要議題，並明確自己的立場。總而言之，本課程目標有三：1.老師引導同學分析與理解中國政治思想的相關概念；2.掌握相關的各種立場；3.學會應用批判式閱讀理解、重述論證，並且為自己的立場辯護。
The goal of this course is to guide students to interpret and understand Chinese political thought. This goal is carried out in the following context: political thought in today's world is dominated by Western concepts of freedom, democracy, rule of law, and human rights. . We must understand Chinese political thought through dialogue with Western political thought. Based on the above goals, this course starts with the study of pre-Qin Chinese political thought, reading and discussing pre-Qin Confucianism, specifically Confucius's thought of rule by virtue and Mencius' thought of kingship. Then we move on to the discussion of contemporary political and ideological issues. The main topics are as follows: political Confucianism, Asian values and human rights, the compatibility of Confucianism and human rights, Confucian benevolence, and the theory of democracy developed by contemporary New Confucianism. The course will conduct textual research and discussion on the above issues. It is hoped that through reading and discussion in this course, students can grasp the important issues of contemporary Chinese political thought and clarify their own positions. All in all, this course has three goals: 1. The teacher guides students to analyze and understand relevant concepts of Chinese political thought; 2. Master various relevant positions; 3. Learn to apply critical reading comprehension, restate arguments, and defend one's own position.
