本課程之基本教學目的雖在於協助學生了解西方漢學之發展,以及使學生具備蒐尋與閱讀西方漢學文獻之能力,但考量英文論文閱讀能力可透過耳聽、口讀等途徑漸進培養,另考量到研究方法與論文寫作是碩士班學生所需要的知識基礎,因此第一學期的課程較著重於以下四項目標之前三項,第二學期則較著重於第四項目標(課程規劃將依學生個別程度調整內容):
一、加強學生英文聽說讀等三方面的基本能力
二、培養學生具備人文學科研究方法與撰寫論文的基本知識
三、培養學生具備搜尋西方漢學文獻及閱讀漢學文獻摘要之能力
四、培養學生具備閱讀以英文寫作之西方漢學文獻內容的能力Although the basic teaching purpose of this course is to help students understand the development of Western Sinology and to equip students with the ability to search and read Western Sinology literature, it is considered that the ability to read English papers can be gradually cultivated through listening, oral reading, etc., and also considers the Research methods and thesis writing are the knowledge base required by master's degree students. Therefore, the first semester courses focus more on the first three of the following four goals, while the second semester focuses more on the fourth goal (the course planning will be based on individual students).
