This 2-credit course is designed to enhance students’ English proficiency, with a focus on listening and speaking skills. In addition to incorporating communication skills and strategies into teaching, the instructor particularly focuses on enriching the students’ cultural knowledge of biblical parables taught by Jesus. Through reading relevant parts of the Bible and related scriptures and materials, as well as additional materials and videos, students will develop their understanding of the meaning of parables, the life lessons to be learned and the oral skills to talk about them. Students will also have the chance to hear from guest speakers from abroad who have expertise in this field. Making analogies is a relevant skill that students will have ample practice with in this course. Classes will meet once a week, three hours in a row. Basically, class materials will be covered through an integration of teacher-controlled guidance and student-centered practice and activities to help the students understand, integrate, apply, and, hopefully, internalize what they learn in class.
