當代華人的國際遷移無疑是全球人口流動的重要一環,美國則是二戰以來華人主要移入的國家。根據2020年美國人口普查,全美華人人數已達520萬,是最大的亞裔少數族裔群體,對於美國的現代化與當代國力發展提供不可或缺的貢獻。然而,美國主體社會對於華人的移入,卻總在容忍接納和疑慮恐懼之間徘徊,近年更因美中兩大強權的政經對抗以及Covid-19疫情蔓延,再度掀起仇華風暴。本課程將從華人移民的動機、目的、據點、經濟型態、遷移模式、族群認同、政治參與等方面著手,探討美國華族社會由流寓至定居的發展過程與變遷,剖析華族與當地社會在不同時空中的互動模式,引導學生以小見大,更深入地理解與思考人類遷移的行為與生命價值。The international migration of contemporary Chinese is undoubtedly an important part of global population mobility, and the United States is the country where Chinese people have moved to since the Second World War. According to the 2020 US Census, the number of Chinese in the United States has reached 5.2 million, making it the largest Asian minority group, providing indispensable contributions to the modernization of the United States and the development of contemporary national strength. However, the dominant American society has always been hovering between tolerance for accepting and suspicion and fear of Chinese people. In recent years, the political confrontation between the two major powers of the United States and China and the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic have once again set off a resurgence. This course will start from the movement, purpose, point, economic model, migration model, ethnic identity, political participation of Chinese immigrants, explore the development process and transformation of American Chinese society from migration to settlement, analyze the interaction modes of Chinese and local society in different time and space, and guide students to see the big picture and understand and think more deeply about human migration behavior and life value.
