教育目標 Course Target

當代華人的國際遷移無疑是全球人口流動的重要一環,美國則是二戰以來華人主要移入的國家。根據2020年美國人口普查,全美華人人數已達520萬,是最大的亞裔少數族裔群體,對於美國的現代化與當代國力發展提供不可或缺的貢獻。然而,美國主體社會對於華人的移入,卻總在容忍接納和疑慮恐懼之間徘徊,近年更因美中兩大強權的政經對抗以及Covid-19疫情蔓延,再度掀起仇華風暴。本課程將從華人移民的動機、目的、據點、經濟型態、遷移模式、族群認同、政治參與等方面著手,探討美國華族社會由流寓至定居的發展過程與變遷,剖析華族與當地社會在不同時空中的互動模式,引導學生以小見大,更深入地理解與思考人類遷移的行為與生命價值。The international migration of contemporary Chinese is undoubtedly an important part of global population mobility, and the United States has been the main country to which Chinese have immigrated since World War II. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the number of Chinese in the United States has reached 5.2 million, making them the largest Asian minority group and making indispensable contributions to the modernization and development of contemporary national strength in the United States. However, the mainstream society in the United States has always been torn between tolerance and acceptance and suspicion and fear regarding the immigration of Chinese. In recent years, the political and economic confrontation between the two major powers of the United States and China and the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic have once again set off a storm of anti-China sentiments. This course will start from the motivations, purposes, strongholds, economic types, migration patterns, ethnic identities, political participation, etc. of Chinese immigrants, explore the development process and changes of Chinese society in the United States from exile to settlement, and analyze the relationship between Chinese and local society. The interactive modes in different time and space guide students to see the big from the small, and to have a deeper understanding and thinking about the behavior of human migration and the value of life.
