The process of architectural design includes various expression methods and multiple levels of meaning, but it still relies on images and language as media in the process of forming basic ideas. Many ideological transformations have taken place from images and language to actual architectural spaces. This course will explore how to integrate methods of expressing ideas from a narrative perspective. Narrative can be understood as a form that expresses the order of things through space and time, and is also a structural method that combines various parts into a whole. If architecture is an expression of thought, it involves the question of how to form a narrative.

The course will first consider the relationship between architecture and narrative through concepts related to philosophy and art theory. Next, we will analyze the basic theories and texts of different art types such as painting, comics, and movies, and explore the ideological expressions of space, time, and the order of things in different media. Faced with these differences, we must also consider the ideological conditions and limitations behind the narrative structures and technologies of different media. The discussion of these image relationships will serve as an ideological reference for architectural narrative methods.
The main method of this course is to read and analyze texts, and respond to the issues faced by different texts through writing and images. At the same time, it will also cooperate with the progress of the freshman architectural design course to deepen the ideological integration of the design process.
