教育目標 Course Target

{此為參考資料。正式版於課堂發放} 我們正處於一個利用數字來描述與理解社會的時代。比方說,政治上,我們利用民調來判斷總統的受歡迎程度;經濟上,我們用失業率來評斷政府的施政表現;學術上,亦常使用普查或調查的資料來進行研究,如利用「台灣社會變遷基本調查」來檢驗教育年數與薪資水準的相關關係。因此,社會統計是各大學社會學系的核心必備課程。不過,即使統計在生活和研究皆扮演了舉足輕重的角色,繁複的統計公式與模型卻常讓許多學子敬而遠之。本課程因此將以「統計思考」作為課程核心主軸,而非一般社會統計課程強調的公式運算。本課程希冀以較為科普的教學方式介紹統計觀念與背景,並指出常見的不良統計來源與狀況,以增廣學生的統計思維能力,並搭配對統計報表的詮釋,來加強對統計的應用能力。 在這一學年的課程中,第一學期著重單變項描述分析、機率分布和信賴區間,第二學期則聚焦在雙變項分析與迴歸分析。希冀藉由ㄧ學年的反覆打底,為大三的社研法實作專題奠定堅實基礎。 {This is a reference. The official version will be distributed in class} We are in an era where numbers are used to describe and understand society. For example, in politics, we use opinion polls to judge the popularity of the president; in economics, we use the unemployment rate to judge the government's performance; in academics, we often use census or survey data to conduct research, such as using " "Basic Survey on Social Change in Taiwan" to examine the correlation between years of education and salary levels. Therefore, social statistics is a core required course in sociology departments in various universities. However, even though statistics plays a crucial role in life and research, many students often stay away from complicated statistical formulas and models. Therefore, this course will use "statistical thinking" as the core theme of the course, rather than the formula operations emphasized in general social statistics courses. This course hopes to use a more popular teaching method to introduce statistical concepts and backgrounds, and point out common sources and situations of bad statistics, so as to enhance students' statistical thinking ability, and use the interpretation of statistical reports to strengthen their ability to apply statistics. In this academic year's course, the first semester focuses on univariate descriptive analysis, probability distribution and confidence interval, while the second semester focuses on bivariate analysis and regression analysis. It is hoped that through repeated preparations in the first academic year, a solid foundation will be laid for the social research method implementation topic in the junior year.
