民法是規範人民權利義務、且具生活化特質的基礎法律。鑑於法律在生活中日漸重要，認識民法有助於修課同學日後生活中之應用，並對於社會生活有所助益。另外，由於民法為私法領域的基礎法，民法總則乃所有民事法規的基本原則，因此，本課程之目的，在使修課同學掌握民法體系及民法總則編之規定，作為日後學習其他民事法律規定之基礎。課程安排與進度上，亦會盡可能涵蓋民法其他各編與其他民事法之重要概念，以利修課同學對民事法有完整掌握。Civil law is a basic law that regulates people's rights and interests and has a life-oriented nature.
