This course is a comprehensive course of the knowledge and reality module. Students taking the course should note that the current course plan may still change, so students must attend the first class; the specific course content and scoring method will be subject to the instructions in the first class. According to the current plan, through discussions on language, we will help students reflect on the ideas they have acquired in past courses related to knowledge and reality, and consider possible ways to apply these ideas. More specifically, whether we discuss knowledge or reality, we cannot avoid the complex issues involving language. On the one hand, knowledge needs to be conveyed through language, but when some language users no longer use language as a tool to convey knowledge, but instead use it for deception or manipulation, will this have a systemic impact on the process of pursuing knowledge? On the other hand, reality includes social reality, which may be shaped by language. So, is it possible that language can be used to create social structures that oppress certain groups, and how do we confront this potential threat? To consider such questions we will read the work of Cappelen and Dever on atypical ways of using language. However, the main purpose of this course is to allow students to think independently based on what they have learned in the past; therefore, in addition to lectures, there will be a certain proportion of oral reports and class discussions in the course to encourage students to develop their own ideas.
