本課程旨在探討當代科技對個人與社會帶來的倫理挑戰,並培養學生的批判性思維與倫理判斷能力。透過閱讀與分析經典文獻,學生將深入了解科技進步所引發的倫理議題及其複雜性。本課程的主要目標有三:首先,讓學生認識當代科技的倫理議題,主要聚焦於兩大科技範疇——機器(包括AI與機器人)與生殖科技(如墮胎)。其次,學生將學習如何運用規範倫理學的理論或原則來分析這些科技議題,尤其是透過本課程的兩大案例,檢討「雙果論」(The Doctrine of the Double Effect)在科技倫理決策中的合理性。最後,學生將透過討論現實科技議題,理解人類在科技發展中的風險、權利與倫理責任,並逐步掌握英美道德哲學中科技倫理的規範性論述與分析方法。This course aims to explore the ethical challenges brought by contemporary technology to individuals and society, and to cultivate students' critical thinking and ethical judgment. Through reading and analyzing classical texts, students will have an in-depth understanding of the ethical issues and their complexities brought about by technological advances. The main goals of this course are three: First, let students understand the ethics of contemporary technology, mainly focusing on two major technological aspects - machines (including AI and robots) and reproductive technology (such as wombs). Secondly, students will learn how to use theories or principles of standard ethics to analyze these scientific and technological issues, especially through two major cases in this course, to examine the Doctrine of the Double Effect in the decision of scientific and technological ethics. Rationality. Finally, students will discuss the topics of real science and technology, understand the risks, rights and ethics of humans in the development of science and technology, and gradually master the standardized arguments and analytical methods of scientific and technological ethics in British and American moral philosophy.
