This is a 2-hour-a-week course designed for high-intermediate to advanced English level students to improve language proficiency through the study of American poetry. Students will engage in active discussion and use English to express opinions about poetry and it’s meaning. Students will gain valuable English language knowledge and experience as well as literary, cultural and personal enrichment. Students will meet in class once a week. Class time will be divided between lecture, seminar and discussion. Instructor lecture will be for the sole purpose of providing background knowledge, instruction and modeling practices for engaging, evaluating and speaking about poetry. After that, students will be expected to discuss and work with individual poems through seminar style discussion, group work and individual class presentations.
