This course aims to teach students in basic knowledge in product design, manufacturing and development. The skill about how to design and draw a product by 3-D model software is introduced. Case studies and project are implemented especially for sustainable products to meet the teaching objectives. After completing this course, students can use all the knowledge to the relevant courses including: projects, energy process design, industrial ecology, advanced product design and development.
The connotation of the lecture includes five major parts: (1) The basic design process in products development. (2) The sustainability in decision making for selecting the optimum design in product development. (3) Using 3-D features modeling software to create product model. (4) Introducing layer manufacturing (3-D printing) to accomplish the prototype of the product. (5) Project oriented to implement the sustainable product.
