在環境科學的領域中會面臨相當多的數據處理的問題；除了一般研究領域常用的數據分析方法，其他包括污染物分析、生態調查、大氣及水文調查等的結果，面臨了如此多的數據時必須利用統計學的原理及技術將數據加以分類、分析及檢定該數據的義意。經由統計分析處理的結果可說明環境的現況併提供環境工作者決策的資訊。同時在環境評估或是環境政策中會面臨日漸重要的問卷調查工作，統計學將是不可缺少的技術。
In the field of environmental science, there are quite a lot of data processing problems; in addition to the data analysis methods commonly used in general research fields, other results including pollutant analysis, ecological surveys, atmospheric and hydrological surveys, etc. are faced with so much data. The principles and techniques of statistics must be used to classify, analyze and test the significance of the data. The results processed through statistical analysis can explain the current situation of the environment and provide information for environmental workers to make decisions.
