病毒學的一般介紹，是談及病毒定義、培養、結構、核酸及感染過程、病毒與細胞寄主之間的交互作用﹐這包括免疫細胞、腫瘤發生、病毒分類、生物技術的相關科學。病毒學由於病毒結構簡單並涉及生物、人類的疾病，本課程除了介紹這門科學之外，也希望提供醫、藥、農、工及環境衛生相關科學的學習之用。
