本課程目標是引導學生探索並理解歐洲十八世紀至一次世界大戰的歷史發展。歐洲作為世界重要的一部分，在現代歷史的發展中以政治和工業經濟的力量，讓歐洲自身的歷史與世界其他地區緊密連結。是故，對於歐洲現代史的探索與了解，就不限於歐洲本身，同時有助於修課學生理解現代世界形成的樣貌。
課程上課方式以教師演講、短影片觀賞（如磨課影片）、以及隨堂練習為主，修課同學另需閱讀指定書籍的相關章節，藉以自主鍛鍊歷史思維的養成。課程也將挑選相關英文資料於課堂中閱讀，以加強修課同學的資料解析與論述能力。
The purpose of this course is to guide students to explore and understand the historical development from the Eighteenth Century to the First World War. As an important part of the world, Europe has closely linked Europe's own history with the power of politics and industrial economy in the development of modern history. Therefore, the exploration and understanding of modern European history is not limited to Europe itself, but also helps students to understand the appearance of the modern world.
The courses are mainly taught by teachers, short video viewing (such as class videos), and training in class. Students in class also need to read relevant chapters of designated books to independently develop historical thinking. The course will also select relevant English data to be read in the course to enhance the data analysis and discussion skills of students in the course.
