From the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century, a period of about one hundred years, China had unprecedentedly frequent contacts with the outside world. European and American people used the concession as their base (especially Shanghai as the focus) to expand their activities to reach the vast inland area, which had a profound impact on China's politics, diplomacy, commerce, education, religion, etc. At the same time, Chinese people have also begun to study in Europe and the United States. International students often occupy leadership positions politically and socially, and have a wide-ranging impact on the country's foreign policy, as well as innovative undertakings such as business, education, medical care, and culture. . The interactive network of these Chinese and Western people, including their associations and secret society activities, is closely related to the pulse of modern Chinese history. This course focuses on the British and American systems and introduces relevant historical materials in Chinese, English, and Japanese, so that students can have a basic understanding of political and social trends in Chinese and Western networks. At the same time, this course also focuses on cultivating students' ability to personally search, organize, and interpret historical materials, and strengthens induction, analysis, and discussion skills through oral and written reports.
