Seminar: Meeting Preparation For Interpreters
教育目標 Course Target
Meeting preparation is vital for professional interpreters to ensure successful delivery of work in meetings and conferences. It can be, however, a daunting task for novice interpreters to begin with. This seminar aims to provide students the opportunities to review and enhance their existing knowledge and skills of interpreting of different modes (e.g. dialogue interpreting or consecutive interpreting), to understand the various contexts of meetings, and to adopt appropriate approaches to prepare themselves for meetings taken place in reality.
Students will need to consolidate their existing language and interpreting skills to better and faster comprehend authentic meeting materials in different meeting setups. They will also have the opportunity to monitor and reflect on their progress and work closely with colleagues in meeting preparation, e.g. understanding meeting contexts and setups, enhancing thematic knowledge, building and using terminology, liaising with clients or meeting organizers, and understanding issues related to professionalism. At the end of the course, students will be expected take part in real conferences in (or outside) campus to put their learning and preparation into practice.
