Students will be reading poetry and will be introduced to aspects of poetic texts. Students will learn about these elements of poetry by reading both traditional and modern poems. Students will aim to define literature, particularly poetry, and learn to identify its features such as sound, rhythm, meter, language, tone, figures of speech, symbolism, etc. and will learn to critically analyze these aspects using the proper terminology. Students will strengthen their overall skills in reading, analyzing and discussing poetry. Active participation is essential to the success of this class.
