Seminar on Human Rights Politics

Course Target

The main purpose of this course is to introduce students to the research results of the increasingly growing topic area of international human rights in political science, especially the development of empirical research approaches. In terms of course design, the focus of this course is not on the normative discussion and speculation of human rights concepts, but on the actual phenomenon of the development and proliferation of human rights concepts after World War II as a starting point to explore its causes and impacts. Discussions in the course will cover human rights practice at different levels, including participation in human rights treaties, the development of regional human rights institutions, and human rights violations at the domestic level.
