Intermediate Oral: Focusing on Idiomatic and Colloquial
教育目標 Course Target
On completion of the course, students should be able to
a) demonstrate orally and in written form their linguistic and cultural knowledge of the idiomatic and colloquial expressions acquired by using them appropriately in predefined contexts;
b) demonstrate orally and in written form their memorization and control of the idiomatic and colloquial expressions by using them deliberately and appropriately in extended discourses;
c) show their communication, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities and skills by using the idiomatic and colloquial expressions spontaneously and appropriately in prepared and impromptu pair or group interactions at normal speech rate in extended discourses; and
d) show their ability to sustain and enhance their interest and motivation in learning English by taking the initiative to acquire and use more idiomatic and colloquial expressions on their own.

課程概述 Course Description
This 3-credit semester-long course is designed to enhance students�English oral proficiency in a variety of individual and interactive activities. In addition to incorporating communication skills and strategies into teaching, this course will particularly focus on enriching the students�idiomatic and colloquial expressions as well as their knowledge of appropriate usage of these expressions in various contexts. In this course, idiomatic and colloquial expressions are viewed in a broad sense, including a wide range of contracted and clipped expressions, phrasal verbs, similes, metaphorical usage, clich廥, and slang. Classes will meet twice a week, three hours in total. Basically, class materials will be covered through an integration of teacher-controlled guidance and student-centered communicative practice and activities to help the students to understand, apply, integrate, and, hopefully, internalize what they learn in class.
