課程概述 Course Description
This 3-credit course is designed to help students improve their English oral/aural skills and their understanding of American culture through several films. The films selected for this course will focus on the theme “doing humor/comedy.” The language skills center on building up idiomatic and colloquial expressions, expanding daily-life vocabulary, and recognizing dialect differences which reflect the diversity of the American population. These language features are necessary components for understanding and doing humor in English. Students will improve their listening skills through film viewing and enhance their oral skills though in-class group discussion and other group-based tasks. In addition, students should be able to improve their overall understanding of American people and appropriate use of the English language through reflections on the similarities and differences between Taiwanese and American cultures.
