瞭解我們所處的、當代的社會:探討物面臨消費品化的各式問題,認識消費社會的「神話」所造成的危害和浪費,探討的範圍包括消費理論和大眾傳媒、身體(作為消費品和象徵符號)。本課程進一步希望能透過文本研讀與分析,瞭解當代消費社會問題的形成,以及消費與我們的生存(死亡)的關係。
研讀當代法國哲學家、社會哲學家布西亞(Jean Baudrillard)《消費社會》(La Societe de consommation)以認識後結構主義、符號理論和交換理論,並探討物和用來消費的物、消費和功用化等問題,涉及的問題探討有:大眾媒體(尤其是廣告)與消費神話,符碼化問題,「我」的消費與被消費,並將介紹與學習當代重要理論:擬像(Simulation)理論,象徵符號理論與交換理論,身體哲學。 其次,本課程包含消費理論和個別消費現象的分析。 理論部分,除了消費理論,尚有:物的形式,價值理論。 個別消費現象的分析,大致分為三大部分:媒體(尤其,廣告及大眾傳媒)與消費,身體作為消費品,時間作為消費品。Understand the contemporary society we live in: explore various issues facing the consumerization of objects, and understand the harm and waste caused by the "myth" of consumer society.
