In the second semester, we will use contemporary architectural (related) theoretical issues [issues] as the report topic. We hope to help students expand their knowledge and practice "thinking" on related topics around architecture after they gradually become proficient in it, and also practice constructing possible The "theory" that connects your operations to the world.
"All social life is theoretical, and all theories are real social practice buildings. Of course, this is also true. On the one hand, we must understand the principles of how things change through theory (in the narrow sense of intellectual "theory") and then in design cope with it. On the other hand, we must also rely on a certain "relationship between myself and the world" (a "theory" involving value) before we can think about how to use the understanding of the first theory to achieve the purpose of the second theory .
Over the years, we have sorted out three research directions with slightly different attributes and steps for students to choose from. We hope to use the diversification of exercises to respond to changes in the external situation, and at the same time provide students with more differentiated learning models. Category 1 "Contemporary Cultural Issues" is basically the same as in the past. It is to practice "theoretical thinking?" connecting architecture, self, and the world through some selected contemporary issues. Category 2 "Issues of immediate concern to Taiwan" are topics that are closely related to Taiwan and have been discussed in depth in other fields, but still need to be explored in architecture, such as "globalization" and "colonial modernity"; this year there are plans to add more "Current spatial production models", such as: BOT (Ordinance for Promotion of Participation), international land competition, redistricting, volume transfer, etc., are the mechanisms that actually shape Taiwan's current urban and regional development, but also cause many problems. This type of discussion is more challenging and may be suitable for students who like rigorous thinking and are interested in pursuing academic development. Category 3, "Recent Architectural Practice Models", is an analysis and review of some newly emerged architectural practice models in response to the changes in the current social and economic system. It is suitable for students who dare to challenge reality and think strategically about the big picture. In terms of work flow, in order not to create an undue burden on the students, we followed the pattern of previous years and divided it into three sections.
Architecture in this course is both an operation and a theoretical reflection.
This course will compare the technical skills of architectural design and explain how architects of various generations appropriate knowledge, technology and experience from other contemporary fields, think about various traditional or contemporary problems, and develop corresponding operating systems; help students learn such Practical experience, on the operational side, provides some inspiration for dealing with immediate problems. Whether consciously or not, all architects must presuppose some kind of "theory" that "constructs the relationship between the form of an architectural work... and its social context or context" in order to connect operations and contexts and construct the meaning of their professional practice. Discussing how different examples connect the context and operations will help us to infer the "theory" that connects our own profession and the real world. Based on the above, we divide the specific content of the [Modern Architectural History] course into the following three themes──
1. The context of architecture and modernity: From a historical perspective, examine the context of global or local architectural development issues.
2. Modern architectural thinking and operation: Introducing the thinking, operation and construction of modern architecture in terms of genres, characters, works and documents.
3. Theory of knowledge and historical perspective: Reflect on and construct your own theory against the context of modern cognition and mechanism.
In the first semester, we will discuss case studies, supplemented by general operational explanations, to help second-year students who have just started to practice practical architectural design, starting from "reading architecture", and gradually becoming familiar with the complexity of design concepts and practical operations. correspond. In the second semester of elective electives, we will have in-depth discussions on some topics in the development of modern architecture. We hope that elective students can think about the multiple connections between operations and contexts, understand what they are doing, and understand what they are doing. role in the real world. In addition to midterm and final exams, there are three written reports in each semester; in principle, there are three hours of extracurricular discussion time on Tuesday evening. Students who choose this course must have taken [Architectural Design Exercises (4)].
