In the second period, we will use the contemporary construction (related) theory topic [issue] as the report topic. We hope to help students develop deep knowledge and practice the "thinking" of related subjects around the building after gradually practicing the operation, and also practice the "theory" that can connect their own operations with the world.
"All social life is theoretical, and all theories are true social architecture. On the one hand, we must understand the principle of changes in things through theory, (the intellectual "theory" of meaning) and then design-correct. On the other hand, we must also rely on a certain "relationship between me and the world" (a "theory" involving value) and then think about it - how to use the understanding of the first theory to achieve the purpose of the second theory.
Over the years, we have compiled three directions where the characteristics and steps are slightly different for students to choose from; we hope to take advantage of the diversification of practice, and to provide students with more learning modes of differences in their external shapes. The ① category "Contemporary Cultural Questions", which are basically the same as in the past, is to practice "theoretical thinking?" connecting buildings, self, and the world through some screened contemporary questions. Class ② "Taiwan Personal Course Questions" are some topics that are related to Taiwan and have been discussed in depth in other areas, but the construction aspect still needs to be developed, such as "globalization" and "colonial modernity"; this year, the "current space production model" is added, such as: BOT (Promotional Regulations), international competitions, replannings, volume transfers, etc., to actually shape the current development of Taiwan's cities and regions, but also many problems. This type of discussion is more challenging and may be suitable for students who like to think carefully and are interested in developing in the direction of academic research. The ③ "Recent Architectural Integrity Model" is an analysis and review of some recent architectural intrinsic changes due to the current social and economic system changes, and is suitable for students who dare to challenge reality and think about the strategic overall pattern. In terms of workflow, in order not to create too much burdens from classmates, we follow the previous year's model and divide it into three paragraphs.
The buildings in this course are an operation and a reflection on theory.
This course will compare the technical nature of architecture design to explain how various generations of architects can use knowledge, technology and experience from other contemporary fields, think about various traditional or contemporary problems, and develop corresponding operating systems; help students learn such practical experiences, and get some triggers to deal with current problems in the operation. Whether it is intentional or not, all architects must pre-design a "theory" of "constructing the form of architectural works... and their social background or connection" in order to connect operations and connections and construct their own professional meanings. Discussing how different examples of how to connect connections and operations will help us to reversely connect our own profession and the "theory" of the real world. Based on the above, we divide the specific content of the [History of Modern Architecture] course into the following three topics ──
1. The connection between architecture and modernity: From a historical perspective, we can view the relevant connections of global or local building development courses.
2. Thinking and operation of modern architecture: Introducing the thinking, operation and structure of modern architecture based on genres, characters, works and literature.
3. Knowledge and historical view: reflect on and construct your own theory based on the connection between modern cognitive and mechanism levels.
In the first period, we will discuss the case and explain it in a generalized operation to help second-year students who have just started practicing the design of quality architecture. Starting from "Reading Architecture", we will gradually become familiar with the complex correspondence between design concepts and quality operations. In the second academic period listed as the selection, we will discuss more in-depth topics in some modern construction development processes; we hope that the students who choose to study can therefore think about the multiple relationships between operation and connection, and recognize the role they play in the real world. Except for mid-term and final exams, there are three written reports in each of the two academic periods; in principle, there is three hours of extracurricular discussion time on Tuesday night. Students who choose this course must pass [Construction Design Works (IV)].
