藝術史的發展並非單一線性演進，它涉及到不同地區的思潮演變、詮釋者對歷史中的視覺藝術進行的脈絡書寫風格。
因此，在美術系的基礎上學習藝術史的目的，在於學習者能夠從學術研究的視野認識視覺藝術的多樣性，從中瞭解藝術品產生的脈絡與其他時代之間的差異或延續性。
在實作方面，透過觀察藝術作品進行描寫，並針對與作品相關之慨念再行搜尋與整理，最終完成一份學術性質的書面報告。
以此方式訓練學習者的自我思想能力，以及對圖像與意涵之間關聯的敏感度。
期盼最終學習者能夠在創作與藝術相關訓練上，擁有更多豐富的理解基礎。The development of art history is not a single linear evolution. It involves the evolution of ideological trends in different regions and the contextual writing styles of interpreters on visual art in history.
Therefore, the purpose of studying art history on the basis of the Department of Fine Arts is that learners can understand the diversity of visual arts from the perspective of academic research, and understand the differences or continuities between the context of the production of artworks and other eras.
In terms of implementation, we observe and describe the works of art, search and organize the ideas related to the works, and finally complete a written report of an academic nature.
In this way, learners' self-thinking ability and sensitivity to the relationship between images and meanings are trained.
It is hoped that eventually learners will have a richer foundation of understanding in creative and art-related training.
本課程的主要範圍在討論西方藝術從史前時代到18世紀的巴洛克(Baroque)。授課內容以繪畫史的發展，配合不同時代的文明旁及於建築與雕塑的討論。
The main scope of this course is to discuss Western art from prehistoric times to the Baroque of the 18th century. The course content is based on the development of painting history, combined with discussions of architecture and sculpture along with civilizations in different eras.
