The purpose of the course is for students to master essential mathematical tools and methods relevant to economics. Throughout the semester, the student should know the basic concepts of linear algebra, calculus of functions of several variables, including calculation of partial derivatives of explicit and implicit functions, solutions of problems of unconditional and conditional optimization. The student should be able to investigate economic problems of comparative statics using the methods of a calculus, to discover points of maximum and minimum for functions of several variables, to use the method of Lagrange multiplier, to find extreme points of functions subjected to constraints. The purpose of the course is for students to master essential mathematical tools and methods relevant to economics.
Economic mathematics is a method in which economists use mathematical symbols to describe problems and use known mathematical theorems to assist in economic analysis. The scope of its application can include any field such as individual economics and overall economics. The purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the most basic mathematical methods commonly used in economics literature. The course content includes equilibrium analysis, linear models, matrix operations, using matrices to find solutions to linear models, comparative statics, optimization, etc.
