The quality of the political system deeply affects the quality of people's lives. Under a just political system, people can live and work in peace and contentment, but under tyranny, people are in dire straits. We can have different discussions about various political systems, such as how the government is organized or actually operates, and how it affects the people. However, some discussions are normative discussions, such as discussions about whether the political system itself or its principles are good or bad, just or not. Political philosophy is concerned with clarifying and evaluating the principles behind the establishment of political systems. In this course, we will discuss the issue of political normativity with political liberalism as the core, starting from contract theory to the contemporary liberal representative John Rawls, and through the critique of liberalism For example, communitarianism clarifies and evaluates the principles behind political systems. In addition, this course also discusses relevant topics that are hotly debated today, such as global justice and transformational justice. This course has three goals: 1. To guide students to analyze political normative concepts such as fairness; 2. To demonstrate the arguments of major political philosophy theories; 3. To learn to apply philosophical skills (basic skills include: critical reading comprehension, restatement of arguments) analysis Questions of political philosophy. After fully understanding the above goals and learning expectations, students can be more confident in taking charge of their own learning process. In order to achieve the above goals, students' pre-class preparation and attendance in class are necessary. Pre-class preparation includes spending time reading, taking notes, and asking questions. Class attendance mainly involves listening and participating in discussions, and applying pre-class preparations to discussions.
