當代對於儒家哲學的理解與討論有很多面向，在道德哲學方面，除了如當代新儒家牟宗三以義務論來理解外儒家之外，現代西方學者也以別的方式理解儒家，諸如角色倫理學（role ethics）、德性倫理學（virtue ethics）與情感主義（sentimentalism）。在政治哲學方面，牟宗三以良知自我坎陷開出民主的概念來說明當代儒家政治與古代儒家德性政治的不同，此外也有蔣慶力求與心性儒學切割的政治儒學，也有陳祖為提倡儒家致善主義（perfectionism）。本課程目標有三：第一，希望同學們可以對當代的儒家道德哲學與政治哲學有初步的理解；第二，鼓勵同學們透過討論評判各種立場，即批判式閱讀理解、重述論證；第三，鼓勵同學們嘗試提出自己不同於前人的儒家構想。The contemporary understanding and discussion of Confucian philosophy has many aspects. In terms of moral philosophy, in addition to the contemporary New Confucian Mou Zongsan who uses deontology to understand Confucianism, modern Western scholars also understand Confucianism in other ways, such as role ethics ( role ethics), virtue ethics (virtue ethics) and sentimentalism (sentimentalism). In terms of political philosophy, Mou Zongsan used the self-entrapment of conscience to develop the concept of democracy to explain the difference between contemporary Confucian politics and ancient Confucian virtue politics. In addition, there is also Jiang Qing's political Confucianism that strives to be separated from Xinxing Confucianism, and Chen Zu's promotion of Confucianism. perfectionism. The objectives of this course are threefold: first, we hope that students can have a preliminary understanding of contemporary Confucian moral philosophy and political philosophy; second, we encourage students to evaluate various positions through discussions, that is, critical reading comprehension and restating arguments; third , encouraging students to try to come up with their own Confucian ideas that are different from their predecessors.
