本課程旨在引導學生探索並瞭解近代歐洲的歷史發展，起迄年一般認定為西元十六世紀至十八世紀。課程將由歐洲文明的興起開始探討，說明現代早期歐洲歷史的重要課題，包括文藝復興、歐洲的海外擴張、宗教改革與民族國家的出現。
本課程上課方式包含教師演講與磨課（MOOCs）短片段觀賞，修課同學也需閱讀指定教科書的指定章節，以及在學期末撰寫一份短文報告。
本課程的目標是提升學生對於近代歐洲的歷史知識，並認識此一時期重大的宗教、政治、文化、與藝術等文化課題。本課程透過指定教材的共同討論，也會培養修課同學的閱讀與資料解析能力。最後本課程將透過學期報告的撰寫，培養修課同學的寫作與論述能力。
This course aims to guide students to explore and understand the historical development of modern Europe, which is generally considered to be from the 16th century to the 18th century AD. The course will begin with the rise of European civilization, explaining important topics in early modern European history, including the Renaissance, European overseas expansion, the Reformation, and the emergence of the nation-state.
The class method of this course includes watching short clips of teacher lectures and tutorials (MOOCs). Students taking the course are also required to read designated chapters of designated textbooks and write a short report at the end of the semester.
The goal of this course is to enhance students' historical knowledge of modern Europe and to understand major cultural issues such as religion, politics, culture, and art during this period. This course will also develop students' reading and data analysis skills through joint discussions of designated textbooks. Finally, this course will develop students' writing and argumentation skills through the writing of term reports.
