本課程是語言學入門的概論性導讀，從普遍語言學出發，概述語言的基本性質、詞彙結構、語法結構、語用現象等等。
本課程將集中講述漢語的類型學特徵、構詞特性、漢語句法，及漢語的語言演變過程，課程著重於漢語體系的語言議題，並在相關處強調漢語與其他種語言如英語、法語、日語、韓語的差異。
本課程目標為：
1.掌握語言的基本特性和重要的語言學理論
2.瞭解與分析日常語言各層面的特質
3.訓練對語言的觀察能力與敏銳度
4.掌握教育部對外華語教師認證考試「漢語語言學」科目試題
