隨著「中國因素」這套話語在台灣的政治與社會論述中流行,「今日香港,明日台灣」也相應成為一個耳熟能詳的標語,隱含了港臺社會相互的政治情感投射(或者政客的籌碼)。當中,香港往往成為台灣建構認同的他者,因而香港殖民與後殖民的歷史、社會與文化的流變、身分認同的複雜與困惑等也隨之消失在這樣的政治投射中。當香港學者指出,香港主體往往在殖民主義與後殖民的國族話語中被消失(或被視而不見)的時候,同樣也值得台灣在聲援或批評香港問題、或研究及思索兩岸三地關係時自我警惕。如何在歷史與方法上進入香港社會文化的肌理,並在這樣互為主體的過程中,進而反思見台灣社會的發話位置、常識與政治情感?這是這堂課在深入介紹學生香港文化與政治的同時,期待引發學生思考的面向。

「香港」作為一門研究或一門課,是難以涵蓋所有香港的社會文化肌理面向,而「全面理解香港」的期待,在知識上本身就冒著將「香港」整體化、簡化的危機。「初探香港身分與政治」這門課以身分政治作為切入點,透過相關的二手分析與研究為閱讀材料,就殖民主義的批判、左派的政治經濟分析、政治治理管制與政治運動、民間與社會運動、文化分析、本土主義、移民移工與少數族裔等議題等二手資料,疏理香港身分政治的流變與思想,嘗試深入理解香港的政治歷史、社會、文化的特定面向。透過這堂課,學生也能夠具體學習殖民與後殖民身分的理論討論、文化想像的分析、社會運動與底層邊緣的文化再現等方法。

As the discourse of "China factor" becomes popular in Taiwan's political and social discourse, "Today's Hong Kong, tomorrow's Taiwan" has accordingly become a familiar slogan, implying the mutual political emotional projection (or the leverage of politicians) between Hong Kong and Taiwan societies. Among them, Hong Kong often becomes the other through which Taiwan constructs its identity, so Hong Kong’s colonial and post-colonial history, social and cultural changes, and the complexity and confusion of identity are also lost in such political projections. When Hong Kong scholars point out that Hong Kong subjects are often disappeared (or turned a blind eye) in the national discourse of colonialism and post-colonialism, it is also worth Taiwan’s self-discipline when supporting or criticizing Hong Kong issues, or studying and thinking about the relations between the three places across the Taiwan Strait. How can we enter into the fabric of Hong Kong society and culture historically and methodologically, and then reflect on the speaking position, common sense, and political sentiments of Taiwanese society in this process of intersubjectivity? This is an aspect that this class hopes to inspire students to think about while introducing them to Hong Kong culture and politics in depth.

"Hong Kong" as a research or course cannot cover all aspects of Hong Kong's social and cultural texture, and the expectation of "comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong" runs the risk of totalizing and simplifying "Hong Kong" in terms of knowledge. The course "A Preliminary Exploration of Hong Kong's Identity and Politics" takes identity politics as the starting point, and uses relevant secondary analysis and research as reading materials. It uses secondary materials such as criticism of colonialism, leftist political and economic analysis, political governance and political movements, civil and social movements, cultural analysis, nativism, immigrants and ethnic minorities to sort out the evolution and thought of Hong Kong's identity politics, and try to deeply understand the specific aspects of Hong Kong's political history, society, and culture. Through this class, students can also learn in detail the theoretical discussion of colonial and postcolonial identities, the analysis of cultural imagination, social movements and the cultural representation of the subaltern margins, and other methods.
