An introductory stoichiometry course traditionally plays several important roles in the chemical engineering curriculum. On the most obvious level, it prepares the student to formulate and solve material and energy balances on chemical process systems and lays the foundation for subsequent courses in thermodynamics, unit operations and transport phenomena, kinetics and reactor design, and process dynamics and control.
