この授業は，一学期の社會語言分析（一）との関連性が比較的高い授業です（必ずしも社會語言分析（一）を履修している必要はありません）．
私たちは，何かの言語を使いながら生活をしています．言語を使った生活は「当たり前」なので，普段あまり深く考えることがありません．しかし，ある社会である言語が使われる，重視される，軽視される，無視される，といったことはどうして起こるのでしょうか．
例えば・・・
台湾でむかし日本語が国語だったこと，中文（北京語・北京官話？この言語の「正式名称」って何？）が國語となったこと，郷土言語が禁止された時代，郷土言語が授業になる時代，英語が必修外国語になること,etc.．台湾の日本語学科では「標準的な日本語」が当然のこととして学習されていますが，日本には地域方言や手話だってあるのに，なぜ「標準」がここまで重視されるのでしょうか？いろいろな事情で台湾や日本にやって来て暮らす「外国人」がいますが，当然のように台湾・日本の言語を習得する「必要性」がある外国人と，母語が大切にされている外国人がいるのはどうしてなんでしょうか？外国人に対する母語による言語支援や言語習得支援についてなにか知っていること・意見がありますか？
この授業では，言語と社会の関係，社会の中の言語の立場・地位などについての私たちが有している「常識」「当たり前」について，台湾・日本・アジアなど様々な地域を例にとりながら考え（直し）たいと思います．自分たちが普段使っていることば，様々な他者の持つことばへの想い，気持ち，態度などについて，多種多様な資料を使った分析を試みましょう．
文献・資料の精読・分析とともに，自己体験の報告や「異なる立場の人々」との交流も行う予定です．「自分のこと」「「あなた（身近な他者）」のこと」「他者（彼/彼女ら）のこと」「世界のこと」を分析・研究・考察する際の「心構え」や「じっくり考える」態度を培うこと，が大きな目標となります．
具体的には
テーマ（1）台湾の言語（教育）政策を歴史的に振り返る→日治時代（国語＝日本語教育）〜國民黨時代（中文＝國語教育）〜民主化後（郷土言語教育の導入）
テーマ（2）台湾に暮らす外国人と言語生活（外籍配偶・外籍勞工の台湾での暮らしと言語支援について）
テーマ（3）日本に暮らす外国人と言語生活（日本に暮らす外国人の生活環境について考える・言語支援について考える）
授業に参加する受講生の様子も見ながら，テーマ（1）〜テーマ（3）についてどのテーマを取り上げるか，どの順番で取り上げるか，考えていきます．
＊言語と社會の關系の検討を通して「正しい言語習得」という考え方についても検討します． 言語に関する学問的知識や教養を増やすだけではなく，私たちの生活や「生き方」「善き生」に身近に関わるものとして言語について考えていきたいと思います．対象となる地域は主に台灣と日本ですが，植民地主義や全球化といった跨國的な状況も検討対象になります.

1. 言語政策・国語政策：国や地方の政治行政が行う言語に関係のある政策（国語の決定，教育言語の決定，裁判とことば，行政窓口で使う言語等）
2. 外籍人士・外籍勞工・外籍新娘・新台湾之子の言語習得：外国にルーツを持つ人たちは台湾・日本でどのように暮らしているのか？
3. 多言語情報の発信：台湾・日本の移動者・移民たちに対する「言語サービス」はどうなっている？
4. 民族（言語）教育：外国で民族に関する教育を行う意義や難しさについて考えるこの教は, one-semester sociolinguistic analysis (1) とのcorrelation が高い教です (必ずしもSociolinguistic analysis (1) を行学している必はありません).
