教育目標 Course Target
讓學生對於中國現代史有更多的認識與理解,可說是具有高度的現實意義;不僅僅是身處此一世代的人們去日未遠;近代國家如民主、科學、進化、道德、民族、國民各種概念、制度、社會組織、物質技術、文化風尚均肇基於此時。可見到直接的影響仍斧鑿於當世,對於要「實現中華民族偉大復興」的「中國夢」。這種不斷持續追求「富強」與企圖擺脫民族衰敗命運的論述,實源於清末。不察知近代中國政治與社會發展的軌跡,自不能掌握這一套思路何以形成。
近代中國複雜的歷史情境與發展,費正清( John K. Fairbank 1907-1991)將鴉片戰爭後西方衝擊與回應的解釋,已顯單向和不足。中國各地不同區域的地理環境與經濟條件,雖有共同的文化傳統,在面臨新局時也有不同的因應。南港學派的中國現代化的區域研究,恰恰反向的點出這種論點的局限。在現今這個宏大敘事崩解的時代,又隨著兩岸局勢丕變,台灣政治意識型態的轉移,乃至於歷史學研究方向的更迭,近年來中國近現代史的政治色彩逐漸淡化,轉移到社會史、文化史、城市史、性別史等各個領域。再者,南京二檔館《館藏民國檔案》或上海《申報》……林林總總各種存世史料的龐大量體與多面向的性質,使得中國近現代史觸及的範圍,仍在不斷的擴充。受限於教學日程,本課程將規劃專題,除了對時序重大歷史事件做基本勾勒外,還將著重在這些事件背後的結構分析,譬如探討鴉片貿易與世界經濟、晚清以來各種新政所推行的如查戶口、釘門牌,打亂了地方原有的政治秩序、反教話語中涉及的空間與身體觀念……等。其次將從各種概念入手,引導學生進行思辨與討論,如革命、民族、衛生、國民、自由戀愛、世界觀的產生、現代性等共同探究近代中國形塑的過程。以及對國兩黨的發展歷史問題進行剖析,有助學生連結現今。
It can be said that it is of high practical significance to let students have more knowledge and understanding of modern Chinese history; not only are the people of this generation not far away; modern countries such as democracy, science, evolution, morality, nation, and national concepts, systems, social organizations, material technologies, and cultural customs are all based on this time. It can be seen that the direct influence is still profound on the "Chinese Dream" of "realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" in today's world. This discussion of the continuous pursuit of "wealth and strength" and the attempt to escape the fate of national decline actually originated in the late Qing Dynasty. Without observing the trajectory of political and social development in modern China, we cannot understand how this set of ideas came to be.
Given the complex historical situation and development of modern China, John K. Fairbank's (1907-1991) explanation of the impact and response of the West after the Opium War has become one-sided and inadequate. Although the geographical environment and economic conditions of different regions in China share a common cultural tradition, they also have different responses when facing new situations. The Nangang School's regional studies on China's modernization point out the limitations of this argument. In this era of disintegration of grand narratives, as the cross-strait situation changes, Taiwan's political ideology shifts, and even the direction of historical research, the political color of modern Chinese history has gradually faded in recent years, and has been transferred to various fields such as social history, cultural history, urban history, and gender history. Furthermore, the huge volume and multi-faceted nature of various existing historical materials, such as the Nanjing Second Archives Archives of the Republic of China or the Shanghai Shenbao... enable the scope of modern Chinese history to continue to expand. Due to the limited teaching schedule, this course will plan special topics. In addition to a basic outline of major historical events in time series, it will also focus on the structural analysis behind these events, such as discussing the opium trade and the world economy, various new policies implemented since the late Qing Dynasty, such as household registration checks and door tags, which disrupted the original local political order, and the concepts of space and body involved in anti-religious discourse... etc. Next, we will start with various concepts and guide students to think and discuss, such as revolution, nation, health, nationals, free love, the emergence of worldview, modernity, etc. to jointly explore the process of shaping modern China. As well as analyzing the historical issues of the development of the two parties in the country, it helps students connect with the present.
